Europus was established in 1996. The director of Europus, Áine Ní Chonghaile received her training in the Translation Section of the Houses of the Oireachtas, Leinster House, Dublin and spent over ten years on the legal translation team in the section. Sinéad Ní Ráinne M.Sc. joined the company at its establishment.
The company now employs 12 full-time employees. All our translators hold an honours degree in Irish and must pass an examination and an interview before appointment. Most of our senior translators hold a M.Sc. degree in Irish translation. Europus translators receive extensive in-house training and attend Europus’s Post Graduate Diploma in Irish Language Translation which is validated and accredited by HETAC and funded by Údarás na Gaeltachta.
All of the translators employed by Europus are fully vetted to ensure that they hold relevant professional qualifications. References from previous employers are requested and verified. All translators must satisfactorily pass a written examination in translation and proofreading before commencing employment. Translators are given in-house training in Europus’s work practices, e.g. researching terminology, use of client glossaries, CAT Tools etc.
All Europus employees sign an employment contract which binds them to act professionally, impartially and in a non-discriminatory manner in all work assigned to them. They must adhere to company policy in relation to conflict of interest and ethical and professional behaviour. Europus ensures it protects the legal rights and commercial interests of its clients. Translators and proofreaders must sign a confidentiality agreement and are not permitted to divulge content or other aspects of tasks assigned to them. All information is treated as strictly private and confidential.
The company has a written policy dealing with conflict of interest and any identified conflict is handled in accordance with this policy. Staff are regularly reminded of policies and the policies themselves are reviewed and updated annually to ensure that we are in line with industry best practice.
